Sloppy Joe Ring
This isn’t a new recipe to my family, but it is a favorite. I love making sloppy joes, but dread the mess on my sons’ clothes afterward. So I combined the biscuit ring that I have been using for years with my sloppy joe recipe. It was a great result. If you need a fast easy dinner recipe that is still filling, you might try this one. The ring technique can be used for a variety of fillings too.
Sloppy Joe Ring
3 tubes of refrigerator crescent roll biscuits
1 lb of hamburger meat
1/2 c. ketchup
1/4. c sour cream
Oven temp: 350 degrees F.
Cook the hamburger, using prefered spices, until cooked thoroughly. Drain the grease. I use a little salt, Johnny’s seasoning salt (www.Johnnysfinefoods.com) , and fresh ground pepper.
Mix the ketchup and sour cream with the hamburger to form the sloppy joe filling.
Next create the ring. You lay one unrolled crescent roll on the pan with the triangle point to the edge of the pan. Lay the next unrolled crescent roll next to the first with just a slight section of one corner over lapping, with the point outward. Angle the unrolled crescent rolls slightly so you can make a circle. Continue doing this until the circle is finished.
Once you have formed the ring, spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the crescent rolls near the inner edge of the ring. The filling should only be about 3/4 inch wide. Pile the filling higher rather than wider if more is desired.
Beginning with the first crescent roll that was layed down, lay the dough over the ring of sloppy joe mix. If there is any extra dough in the center, tuck it to the right. This will help to keep the dough from getting to thick.
Put in a pre-heated 350 degree oven and bake for the length listed on the roll package or until crescent roll cover is golden brown. Check the dough in the center to ensure it is cooked throughly.
1. The sloppy joe mix tastes great on hamburger buns as well.
2. Make sure that the crescent roll dough isn’t overlapped too much, or there will be a greater chance of uncooked dough
3. This meal warms up really well.
Other fillings that taste great in a crescent roll ring:
1. Chili chicken
Ingredients: 1 can cooked chicken, 1 can hot dog chili (no beans or meat), BBQ seasoning. Mix together
Ingredients: BBQ Brisket, and BBQ sauce
